The standard adjustable air suspension system can lift the car high enough to provide 208 mm (8 in) of ground clearance; a low-range mode (an option with manual transmission), absent from other quattro-equipped vehicles, can be selected with the touch of a button. When used together, the two systems made it possible for the Allroad to complete an official !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! test-course, thus far it is the only car-based SUV that has been proven capable of doing so in testing.

Is the Allroad really considered an SUV? Like the Outback I consider these to just be lifted wagons.

Well when you think about what SUV stands for, the Allroad makes a better case than most SUVs. I mean it actually has S to go with the U and is definitely a V.

Yeah, like the Outback and XC70, it’s a wagon with boots on. But they are very good boots, not just for show.

Even the current outback, which everyone refers to as a crossover or a SUV is still the same concept as the first generation Outback. The only difference is that the Legacy it was based on has gotten huge throughout the years. Lifting it changes the profile of the car just enough to make people think it’s now an SUV. Just look at the Legacy wagon vs the Outback.

Kinja'd!!!

The Legacy wagon looks like a proper wagon.

Then you move to the Outback where a simple lift makes the car look shorter and more like an SUV such as a Ford Escape but the shell is identical to the Legacy Wagon above.

At first I was like, no, i dont want the Allroad to be concidered an SUV but your 100% correct. Its not an SUV in a Tahoe/Explorer way. I usually think of SUVs as only being truck based

The original wagon based SUV:

(OK, maybe not the first, but an early one I guess, and it’s a 505, so it’s the coolest)

I want to own a French car at some point (both sides of my family are french) that wouldn’t be a bad choice

I’ve never driven a Dangel, but a regular, RWD 505 is a really great car, they are very comfortable and except for rust, they are extremely durable.
